What attracted you to the immigration field? What keeps you in this field?
Having familial ties to undocumented immigrants and my experiences of living with the fear of separation from my loved ones, all tormented me long enough for me to want to master what I feared most – immigration law. The best way for me to get rid of the fear was to learn about it. Mastering the responsibilities of the federal agencies involved, overcoming the numerous barriers with every administrative change, and all the legal knowledge that comes with the never-ending curiosity. I instantly fell in love with the opportunity this position gives me to educate others. It is a combination of empathy, compassion, and education, all of which I put into practice with every case I work on.
How do you believe you can make an impact in your position to help clients in the law firm?
As the LLF Senior Paralegal it is my responsibility to gain as much knowledge as possible to help others in my field provide excellent service, better experiences, and in turn, create leaders out of all those who we assist in navigating the immigration maze. In my 6-plus years as an Immigration Paralegal, I have learned no two cases are alike. Every client has his/her own story and every chance to work with a client gives me insight to a new perspective. I believe one of the most important ways you can do your job well is by keeping a student mentality, accepting lifelong learning, and becoming resourceful. The immigration field requires we keep our skills current and if we are learning every day this means we are always developing, improving, and providing a better service to the people of our community.
